After our insurance sent out a cleaning crew to rip up linoleum and carpet and set several high power fans up to dry the floors, we left. We checked into a "moderately priced hotel" our insurance would reimburse the cost.
Highlights of this adventure included:
- An indoor pool ! Yeah, that was sweet.
- We stayed there a total of 6 nights.. blahh, not so sweet.
- We hated it and loved it. All the while still trying to live our lives with work, school, etc.
- Nap time was almost impossible.
- Free hot breakfast, and cookies anytime.. Very sweet.
- We celebrated Easter in that crazy room.
- We lived through two tornado warnings while we were there.
- Later we would come to appreciate the steaming hot shower they had as well.
So what did we do next? It sounds so ghetto but we both got a 1 week trial membership at a local gym so we could take a wonderfully hot shower anytime during business hours. We didn't care that we had to wear flip flops to keep the fungus off our feet or that it stunk like mildew and sweat. We were getting us some shower!! And the cool part was they had babysitting . No baby or kid trying to climb in the shower with me. Yes.
The day our "shower" membership ended (I know we should have exercised too.. but naaaaa) we had the new water heater installed. It was great!
After we got the check for repairs the slow ball started rolling for the floors and trim. The contractor found mold in one wall so we needed some sheet rock replaced.. blah, blah. But it got done and now we have beautiful hardwood "looking" laminate in the living room, kitchen, and hall. Jonathon's room is a totally different story.. the guy hasn't installed his carpet yet so we'll see in the near future what comes of that.
