I've had a few friends ask me to report on our trip to the corn maze that's closest to us. I have to say it was totally fun and worth the drive and cost.First, of all make sure you don't leave during traffic, the highway was bumper to bumper at 4:30... duh we just didn't think of it.
Second, make sure you have a GPS or a good map. We had a print out of a Google map and we ended up lost and in Joplin, about 40 miles past our turn off. After an extra hour of driving we ended up in the right place.
We went up to the ticket booth inside this cool barn (the entrance to the whole place) and asked what was still open after dark. They replied that everything was open until 10pm. Cool beans!
You pay for all the things you want to do up front and in return they give you tickets for the attractions. You can also rent flashlights if you didn't bring any.. $2 so bring your own. We also bought the kids glow sticks for $1 each and they
were a big hit.First we shot the corn cannon 4 shots for a $1.. total fun. I even hit the target... Philip didn't and looked a little blue. Then we slid down the Hill Slide, it was a total rush.. you slide down a board on a conveyor type slide. All four of us went down several times and we all loved it even my two year old.
We went on the Cow Train next. It's a train of cow shape cars that are pulled behins a tractor. Fun but my bum was crammed into a cow. Not a sight to see. We then put Hannah into a wagon that's there for pumpkins and kids and we went through the Corn Maze. We chose the 15 min. short rout instead of the 30 min. long rout.
Then we played with some plastic ducks in water we pumped ourselves, played in the corn box, had hot cocoa, and played checkers on a computer. We then talked to the pigs, chickens, goat, and sheep that are in the petting zoo inside the barn. We then climbed up to the hay loft to look out on the whole farm... too dark to see the maze. We bought the kids .50 cent little decorative pumpkins as souvenirs and headed to the car where the kids quickly conked out.
So some advice: I'm sure these events are fun in the day... but they're really fun at night. Try to go when you'll be there for even a little bit of darkness. Bring your own flashlights, cash, jackets, and a camera. You'll be happy you did. We're defiantly going back next year.
